The Society for Hygiene, Environmental Medicine and Preventive Medicine / Society of Hygiene, Environmental and Public Health Sciences (GHUP) emerged in 2008 from a merger of the Society for Hygiene (GHU) and the International Society of Environmental Medicine.

The association is an interdisciplinary scientific society. It brings together all scientists working in hygiene, environmental medicine, preventive medicine, and environmental and public health sciences.

It promotes the above areas as well as related areas in research, teaching, training, further education and training, development and application and also performs tasks in the field of indirect health care (especially hospital hygiene) and prophylaxis. He develops and tests concepts, disseminates their knowledge and application and participates in the scientific interpretation of the results.

The promotion of hygiene, environmental medicine, preventive medicine as well as environmental and public health sciences is to be achieved, among other things, through scientific conferences, promotion of the publication system and cooperation with other scientific societies. The GHUP is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies .

The GHUP offers advisory services to sponsors of scientific institutions, specialist authorities ( Federal Environment Agency , Robert Koch Institute ), research-promoting organizations and committees of politics and society, as far as scientific aspects of hygiene, environmental medicine, preventive medicine as well as environmental and public health sciences, academic training and the professional training are touched.

Projects and publications

The GHUP has two scientific journals available as official bodies for its members:

The UHA is an independent scientific journal for the entire field of environmental medicine, hygiene, occupational medicine and their border areas. The IJHEH is an English-language, multidisciplinary publication forum for research in the field of hygiene, toxicology and the field of environment, work and health.
