The Society for Neuropsychology (GNP) is a German scientific specialist society that represents the professional and professional interests of academically trained psychologists working in the field of neuropsychology . It was founded in 1986.

organization

The GNP is based in Fulda . As of 2020, it has around 1,600 members. The members work in the field of research, clinical work , the pharmaceutical industry and the forensic field.

It is led by a six-member board. One specialist officer and four people work in the office. Clinical neuropsychologists are certified by the GNP or institutions, associations or courses are accredited as part of quality assurance . A scientific advisory board (14 people) ensures a close connection between science and practice in this interdisciplinary field.

Within the GNP there are (as of 2019) 16 working groups (AK) and 14 regional groups, for example:

  • Working group outpatient neuropsychology
  • AK attention and memory
  • AK early rehabilitation
  • AK fitness to drive

The GNP publishes guidelines for neuropsychological diagnostics and therapy, conducts regular conferences and training courses and has donated a sponsorship award. The journal for neuropsychology has been the Society's publication organ since 1990.

For patients there are detailed explanations of what neuropsychology is and what can be treated, information material and a list of practitioners.

Professional societies in Austria and Switzerland

When it was founded, the GNP initially also represented the specialist colleagues in Switzerland and Austria. After the Swiss merged in 1991 to form the Swiss Association of Neuropsychologists (SVNP) as a member of the Federation of Swiss Psychologists (FSP), a Society for Neuropsychology Austria (GNPÖ) was founded in 1999.
