Society for the history of German language

The Society for German Language History (GGSG) e. V. is a Germanic society that was founded on May 9, 2008 in Graz .

The GGSG wants to support the history of German language in university research and teaching as well as in schools and teaching, but also in society as a whole. It has therefore set itself the goal of accentuating and sustainably anchoring the relevance of current German language history research within German language and literature (the subject area of ​​which is constantly expanding).

The GGSG regularly organizes specialist conferences and awards the Peter von Polenz Prize for the best young talent in the field of German language history. The yearbooks have been published by Walter de Gruyter since 2010 .
