Social Prosecutor

The social prosecutor was a participant in criminal proceedings in the GDR who, in certain cases, stood alongside the public prosecutor .

The social prosecutor had to present a characterization of the accused as well as an assessment of the crime from the point of view of the collective in accordance with the indictment . He had the right to inspect files , to question witnesses and experts and to make independent applications. He mostly came from the defendant's circle of colleagues .

The legal basis was Sections 54, 55 of the GDR's Code of Criminal Procedure .
