Gestalt pedagogy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gestalt pedagogy is a direction of pedagogy that draws its action concepts and theoretical basic considerations and terms from Gestalt therapy .

The first approaches to gestalt education emerged in the USA in the 1970s under the name " confluent education " under the influence of George I. Brown . Gestalt pedagogy promotes holistic learning because, according to the basic theoretical conviction, humans can only be understood as self in an environment . In accordance with Gestalt therapy’s understanding of the process of self and the environment, gestalt pedagogy also focuses on central Gestalt therapy terms, for example contact processes, external and self-support, responsibility.

The concept of Gestalt pedagogy is charged with tension when, as Stefan Blankertz does, the emancipatory character and the anarchist roots of Gestalt therapy are taken into account.

In Germany the magazine for Gestalt pedagogy is published. In Austria, the Institute for Integrative Gestalt Pedagogy and Pastoral Care (IIGS) publishes a gestalt pedagogical journal.
