The Getzner Textil AG is an international, Austrian textile manufacturer with headquarters in Bludenz . The Getzner Textil AG is part of the holding company Getzner, Mutter & CIE . With around 960 employees (2019), Getzner Textil AG is the largest employer in the district capital Bludenz and is one of the largest companies in the state of Vorarlberg and one of the largest colored weavers in the world.

history

The company was founded in 1818 under the company name Getzner, Mutter & Cie by Christian Getzner , Franz Xaver Mutter and Andreas Gassner.

A year later, the company opened the first red dye works in Western Austria in Feldkirch and the company's first machine spinning mill. In 1820 the company was already employing around 3,000 homeworkers for spinning and weaving in the Bludenz area and the adjacent valleys. The current location at Bleichestraße 1 in Bludenz was established in 1827 when the company took over the local city of Bleiche.

Getzner in Bludenz and Bürs was, like many textile companies of the time, also a pioneer of regional electrical energy generation and energy supply. At the end of the 19th century, Getzner converted the originally mechanical energy conversion to hydropower plants for generating electrical energy, and new power plants were built. The Mengbachwerk in Nenzing was the first power station of the Getzner company to go into operation in 1897 . Until around 1980, the entire electricity consumption of the Getzner Group was covered by its own energy generation.

In 1902 the five-story factory building of Getzner, Mutter & Cie. destroyed at Leonhardsplatz in Feldkirch and not rebuilt.

After the company's extensive international business activities, in 1980 the company's textile division was outsourced to the Getzner Textil AG stock corporation that still exists today .

Getzner Textil AG is one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-quality clothing damasks (African damask) as well as fashion fabrics for shirts and blouses. Corporate fashion and technical textiles complement the product range.

According to its own information (2017/2018), Getzner produces around 75 million linear meters of fabric annually in six weaving mills with 760 weaving machines, four finishing and two dyeing plants, generating sales of around 375 million euros. The export share should be over 98% (over 60 countries).

Getzner has put its own district heating network into operation since 2001.
