Construction and Industry Union

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The construction and industry union ( GBI ) was a Swiss union that emerged in 1993 from the merger of the construction and wood union (GBH) and the textile, chemical and paper union (GTCP) and existed until 2004.

In addition to representing the interests of employees vis-à-vis employers, the GBI also offered other services. With the SKBH Swiss health insurance for the construction and wood industry, it had its own health insurance and its own unemployment insurance and also offered relocation assistance, legal protection, holiday facilities and strike pay.

The GBI recently represented around 91,000 members. On October 16, 2004 it merged with the SMUV , the VHTL and the old unia to form the large union Unia .
