The Macau Trade Union Confederation (officially Federation of Macau Workers' Associations , Portuguese Federação das Associações dos Operarios de Macau , Chinese澳門 工會 聯合 總會) is the most influential trade union in Macau and the most important umbrella organization for workers in the Special Administrative Region . In addition, the organization appears as a political association in politics as a loyal part of the pro-Beijing camp .
Political work
The Macau Confederation is also running for elections to the Macau Legislative Assembly . The members are partly elected by direct election and partly appointed via so-called functional constituencies. For direct elections, the trade union federation is running the União Para O Desenvolvimento electoral list , which received two seats in the 2017 parliamentary elections . In addition, the trade union federation also provides the members of the Comissão Conjunta da Candidatura das Associações de Empregados , which was the only electoral list in the functional constituency of the workers' sector . Thus, the Macau Federation of Trade Unions actually holds four of the 33 seats in parliament through various channels.
