Weight ducks are weights in duck shape .

In the ancient oriental economic practice of the high culture period, weights were essential. Metals, especially silver , served as means of payment . However, they had not yet been minted into coins , but were traded in bars or unformed pieces by weight. Therefore, not only the goods to be sold, but also the metal offered in return had to be weighed.

The weights were mostly made of stone, less often of metal. In addition to simple olive or barrel shapes, there have been since the III. Ur Dynasty also includes weights in the shape of ducks. The animals are always shown in the resting or sleeping position. Weights of very different sizes were found. The size ranges from just over 1 cm to about 30 cm. Often there is a dedicatory inscription on one of the wings indicating the weight, for example a foundation for the moon god Nanna von Ur .
