Ghazi Wazni

Ghazi Wazni ( Arabic غازي وزني, DMG Ġāzī Waznī ; * around 1965) is a Lebanese economist and political advisor. From January 21 to August 10, 2020, he was Minister of Finance in the Diab cabinet .

Wazni holds a PhD in economics from Paris 9 University in Dauphine and was a financial advisor in Paris until 2001. He also founded a number of banks in Africa and was Associate Professor and Lecturer in the Faculty of Economics in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 1987 to 1998. He has also worked as a consultant in the field of conducting economic analysis and market forecasting, as well as preparing research studies for government and private organizations on annual budgets, project investment plans and market research. He was also Parliament's Committee on Budgets and Economic Advisor to Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri . Since January 2020 he has been a member of the government of Hassan Diab as finance minister as a representative of the Shiite population , named by the Amal movement .

When he took office, Ghazi Wazni said in an interview with Al Jazeera : “The economic, financial and monetary situation is very difficult. The entire government is under great pressure to convince both local and foreign donors of the reform program that it will present to save the country. "

Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni resigned on August 10, 2020; This was the fourth resignation of the under fire Diab government within a few days as a result of the explosion in the port of Beirut and the protests that followed.
