Gherardo Starnina
Gherardo Starnina (* around 1360 in Florence ; † 1413 there ) was an Italian late Gothic painter .
It is documented from 1387 to 1413.
After Vasari he was born in 1354, was a student of Antonio Veneziano in Florence , executed frescoes in the Castellani chapel in Santa Croce in Florence and then went to Spain, where he worked for John I of Castile . According to Vasari, he had very rough and crude manners in his youth, in complete contrast to his manners on his return to Florence from Spain - for Vasari an example of the character-forming effect of stays abroad. He is also documented in Toledo and Valencia, where he painted altarpieces and frescoes. Frescoes in the San Blas Chapel of Toledo Cathedral are attributed to him. In Spain he was influenced by the international late Gothic style widespread there.
Frescoes in the Jeronimos Chapel of Santa Maria del Carmine (Florence) , preserved only in fragments, are also attributed to him.
