Gian Casper Bott

Gian Casper Bott (born December 26, 1960 in Poschiavo ) is a Swiss museum director, art historian , curator and curator .

Life

Bott studied art history in Zurich, Venice and Florence. From 1988 to 1990 he conducted research in Rome on the relationship between painting and music in modern times. Study visits followed in 1991 in London and from 1997 to 1998 in Paris. As the first Swiss member of the newly founded German Forum for Art History / Center allemand d'histoire de l'art , he conducted studies there on French art criticism in the 20th century. From 1994 to 1996 Bott was a research assistant at the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum in Braunschweig, from 1999 to 2004 at the Kunstmuseum Basel and from 2005 to 2009, with interruptions, at the Kunsthaus Zürich, where he dealt with aspects of the respective collections and designed and implemented exhibitions. From 1994 to 2006 he wrote exhibition reviews and articles for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung .

Since 2015 Bott has been the director of the Kleines Klingental Museum in Basel , the former city and minster museum. In this role he was responsible for the project management of the exhibitions Full Steam to Basel. The first Swiss train station changed the city (2015), Merian 1615–2015. Basel in a city portrait (2015), light shine and dance of death. The Dominican convent in Klingental in medieval Basel (2016), the music hall in Basel (2017), Tramstadt Basel. On rails to the modern city (2018), Basler Münster. A Millennium Building (2019), Modern Living (from May 2020).
