Gian Paolo Chiti

Gian Paolo Chiti (born January 21, 1939 in Rome ) is an Italian composer and pianist . At the age of 4 he began to play the piano and violin and he composed his own compositions. He also gave a few concerts before entering the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the most famous Italian conservatory, at the age of 10 .

His main teachers were Arturo Bonucci , Carlo Zecchi and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (with private lessons and in advanced training courses). He won numerous competitions, including the Treviso and Busoni competitions .

Chiti began his career as a pianist very often as the companion of his wife, a well-known mezzo-soprano and founder and president of the Adkins Chiti "Donne in Musica" foundation.

He wrote pieces for numerous instrument combinations as well as electronic music. His catalog of works also includes scores for films and television. His works are performed at the most famous festivals in Italy and abroad, such as the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Venice Biennale, the Edinburgh Festival, the Lutoslawski Festival in Poland, the Cantiere Internazionale di Montepulciano, the Nuova Consonanza, the Incontri Musicali Romani, the Chopin Festival, the Church Music Festival in Chartres in France, at the Teatro Nacional in Caracas in Venezuela and at the public concerts of the Moscow Conservatory. From 1984 Chiti headed the composition department at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He is also a member of the Italian State Commission for Dance and visiting professor at various Italian and American universities.
