Giancarlo Cobelli (born December 12, 1929 in Milan , † March 16, 2012 in Rome ) was an Italian actor and film director .

Life

Cobelli received his acting training at the Piccolo Teatro in his native city and worked intensively for the stage and quickly for television since the early 1950s. He achieved remarkable success in 1957 with his interpretation in Histoire du soldat under Giorgio Strehler . The derisive manner of his representation in connection with his massive body praised the critics in the one-person-performance Cabaret '59 ; Cobelli played a sequel the following year. After a few years he also took over the staging of plays, often working in the operatic field ; in the 1990s there were performances of Iphigénie en Tauride or Il turco in Italia under his direction. In addition, Cobelli staged (and partly wrote) cabaret and comedies. Towards the end of the millennium he worked at the Emilia Romagna Teatro .

Occasionally Cobelli could be seen on the screen; there he was mostly active in the character subject. In 1967 he directed the film Fermate il mondo… voglio scendere , which he had also written. In the 1970s he worked twice as a director for television and in 1973 brought a version of Woyzeck to the cinemas.
