history

The ship entered service in 1985 as the Akakasan Maru . In 1995 the name was changed to Giant Step .

2006 average

On October 6, 2006, the ship hit a rock in front of the port of Kashima during a storm and then broke. The ship loaded with iron ore was en route from Port Walcott . 13 crew members were rescued, at least two died, while eight were missing.
