Gibson Super V CES

The Gibson Super V CES is an archtop electric guitar model with a full resonance body. It was built from 1978 to 1993 by the American musical instrument manufacturer Gibson . The Super V CES was originally intended as a successor to the Gibson Super 400 CES . The letters CES in the model names stand for the Gibson type designation Cutaway Electric Spanish .

Although most guitarists who played the Gibson models L 5 CES or Super 400 were satisfied with the sound and playability of their instruments, there was an increasing number of players who chose the body and electronics of the L- 5 CES in connection with the headstock and neck properties of the Super 400 CES.

Gibson complied with this request and built the Super V CES, which the company presented at the NAMM Show in 1978. The guitar was built until 1993. The instrument was designed by engineers under the direction of Gibson Product Development Director Bruce Bolens.

The Super V CES was developed as a jazz guitar with the aim of commercial studio recordings. Also, country musician used a model. This instrument essentially connects the L-5 CES instrument body to the Super 400 neck. The timbre of the instrument is reminiscent of the L-5. Playing the instrument is more comfortable thanks to the slimmer neck contour of the Super 400, and it is easier to shape the tone with the grasping hand.

The body of the Super V CES comprises a carved vaulted ceiling from spruce with sides and bottom of maple wood . The guitar is an archtop model with a large body, f- shaped sound holes and a “Venetian” body recess at the base of the neck ( cutaway ) .

Handcrafted from high-quality materials, the Super V CES has a powerful and complex tone even without amplification. Striking the six-fingered is tailpiece ( English : tailpiece ). This holder for the lower ends of the guitar strings can be adjusted individually for each string of the Super V CES, so that the pressure of the strings on the bridge can be adapted to the needs of the player.

In addition to the Super V CES, the BJB model was built between 1979 and 1983 . It is even rarer than the Super V CES, which is also produced in limited numbers.
