Examples of the three typical shapes mentioned, Venetian, Florentine and Maccaferri cutaway: Gibson ES-350T , Gibson ES-175 and a Selmer type by Hanno Kiehl ( Bergen , Norway )

There are basically three different cutaway types:

  • The Venetian cutaway , in which the sides are rounded
  • The Florentine cutaway , in which the sides converge to a point
  • The Maccaferri cutaway , in which the sides run straight and at right angles to the neck in order to only then integrate into the original shape of the body

Other forms can be described as free cutaways . There are also guitars with a cutaway on both sides as well as numerous modifications of the basic shape to other designs.
