Cutaway (instrument)
A cutaway (English cut away is) one at the base of the guitar neck of a guitar befindlicher section of the body . This means that the gripping hand can easily reach the high positions of the fingerboard . Cutaways are mainly for electric guitars (see illustration of a cutaway with an electric guitar) and electric basses , but also in some semi-acoustic guitars , western guitars and occasionally in rockabilly - double basses to be found. Concert guitars are mainly provided with cutaways in combination with an integrated pickup .
There are basically three different cutaway types:
- The Venetian cutaway , in which the sides are rounded
- The Florentine cutaway , in which the sides converge to a point
- The Maccaferri cutaway , in which the sides run straight and at right angles to the neck in order to only then integrate into the original shape of the body
Other forms can be described as free cutaways . There are also guitars with a cutaway on both sides as well as numerous modifications of the basic shape to other designs.
