Gigi Wu
Gigi Wu ( 吳季芸 ; born 1982 in New Taipei , Taiwan ; died January 21, 2019 in Yushan National Park ) was a mountaineer with a large following on the social media of the Internet. Because Gigi Wu (in Pinyin : Wu Jizen or Wu Jiyu) became known for her numerous selfies in front of mountain peaks, for which she wore different bikinis, she was called "Bikini Girl" or "Bikini Mountaineer" on Facebook and the relevant press.
Gigi Wu worked as a photo model and started hiking Taiwanese mountain peaks in 2015. She was considered an experienced mountaineer and was mostly on her own. In the social networks she had 14,000 subscribers. During her last excursion to the 3000 meter high Jupenshan Mountain in a six-mountain range of the Yushan National Park, she fell into a 30 meter deep gorge on January 19, 2019. She was still able to call for help on her satellite phone. Because of the bad weather, the helpers only got access to the mountain region two days later and found Gigi Wu dead. She was frozen to death.
