Gildeón Silva was a Uruguayan soccer player .

Career

Midfielder Silva played from 1923 to 1932 for Club Atlético Peñarol in the Primera División . He came with the Montevideans up to and including the 1927 season on the position of the central half and was a regular player. In the seasons from 1928 to 1930 he shared the role of the right half with Carlos Riolfo . In 1931 he competed there with Luis Mainardi . In his final year with the Aurinegros, he moved back to the central half-position, where he fought with Lorenzo Fernández for a place in the starting XI. With the team he won the 1924 parallel championship organized by the Federación Uruguaya de Fútbol (FUF) during the split in the association structures in Uruguay. The Copa del Consejo provisional of 1926, which the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF) does not recognize as an official championship today, decided his team in favor of Peñarol. In 1928, 1929 and 1932 the Uruguayan championship title was secured.

National team

Silva was a member of the Uruguayan senior team . From his debut on November 25, 1923 to his last appearance on November 17, 1929, he completed eight international matches. He didn't score a goal. Silva was part of the Celeste squad at the South American Championship in Argentina in 1929 , when Uruguay finished third out of four participating teams. In the course of the tournament he was used in all three matches.
