meaning

Gilles Guérin is considered a secondary artist these days, as he did not leave behind a single really original work. However, its stone treatment is also praised by its critics. Contemporaries valued him a bit higher, because after all he died as a professor at the 'Royal Academy of Arts' ( Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture ).
