Ginásio da Brigada Militar

The Ginásio da Brigada Militar (also: Ginásio Universíade ) is a multifunctional sports hall in the Brazilian metropolis of Porto Alegre .

history

It was built within a few months in 1963 on the occasion of the Summer Universiade and has a capacity of 7,000 spectators. At the opening, a girl was trampled dead in the crowd of too many spectators. The press suppressed this report. The basketball and volleyball tournaments took place here.

The sports hall was then available to the military police. The gym is now open to the rest of the population. For a long time it was the largest indoor sports facility in Porto Alegre and Rio Grande do Sul until the Gigantinho was inaugurated in 1975.
