Ginger (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ginger is a four-piece jam band from Zurich . Named after the ginger root , one of the main ingredients of Indian cuisine , as well as the British musician and cream drummer Ginger Baker and influenced by the improvised rock music of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Ginger mix bluesy, rocky, funky and psychedelic elements according to the masala principle. This wide range of styles, together with the fact that there is often jamming on stage , make Ginger a live band above all.

As a self-made band, the group also produces itself exclusively, from cover design to tour booking the musicians take on all the tasks themselves. The idea of the band, which produces itself, also comes from the flower power era, as Led Zeppelin have after her break with Atlantic Records founded her own label, Swan Song Records. Ginger have also adopted certain guerrilla marketing strategies and performed in various illegal basement clubs, especially when they were founded.

biography

The quartet was founded in 2007 and today consists of Marc Walser ( guitar , vocals), Michael Bütikofer (vocals, guitar, trumpet), Arie Bertogg (bass) and Dominik Jucker ( drums ). The basis of the band, consisting of lead guitar and bass, played together in school bands as early as their teenage years. On the occasion of a reunion at Zurich Airport after a long trip to India in autumn 2006, the old jam formation was breathed new life.

style

The band describes their music style as psychedelic blues rock, inspired by West Coast jambands like the Grateful Dead , classic power trio blues rock in the style of Creams and modern stoner rock bands like Color Haze . With a rather unusual lineup consisting of two equal lead singers and guitarists as well as the trumpet, which is sometimes warm and jazzy, then reminiscent of Cake , played hard and rhythmically , the band creates a varied soundscape. Thanks to the optical authenticity and the equipment (the wah-wah pedal is in heavy use, while digital effects are avoided), the retro feeling is not neglected either acoustically.
