Giorgos Sfikas

Giorgos Sfikas (Γιώργος Σφήκας; * 1939 in Athens ) is a Greek author. The German translations of his books appeared under the author's name George Sfikas.

After attending high school in Athens, Sfikas worked for advertising agencies as a graphic designer from 1964 to 1980. Since 1970 he has dealt with ecological and biological issues and has written about 20 books on Greek nature. He discovered several new types of plants; two were named after him (Viola sfikasiana and Colchicum sfikasianum). From 2000 to 2006 he was President of the Greek Society for the Protection of Nature (Πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Προστασίας της Φύσης). Temporarily he worked for the journals Corfés, Ecology and Environment, New Ecology, Ascents, Traveling, Nature and Life, Nature, Mountains.
