Giovanni Antonio Camossi

Giovanni Antonio Camossi (* around 1750 in Airolo ; † after 1808 there) was a politician , governor of the Uri governor and president of the provisional government of the Leventina .

Life

Camossi was born in Airolo in the middle of the 18th century. He was governor of the Uri bailiff and openly displayed his anti-French stance during the French occupation of 1798/1799. Camossi played an important role during the popular uprising in the Leventina, a sideline to the Second Coalition War . From 1798 to 1800 he was President of the Provisional Government of the Leventina (President of the Council of War of the Leventina in 1799). At the head of the people of Airolo on April 27, 1799, he disarmed the Ticino troops sent over from the other side of the Gotthard Pass to protect the Helvetic Republic and seized him on April 28-29.
