The Gira Angola is the second highest division in Angolan football . The league is also known colloquially as Segundona .

history

The second highest division as a national competition was held for the first time in 1995. Teams that have qualified through regional championships compete in a national series to determine who has been promoted to the first Angolan league, the Girabola .

Initially, a total of 18 teams played, divided into three seasons, in the following years the number partially varied. 2010 to 2012 and again since 2015 it is only played in two seasons. The number of participating teams fluctuated, also because some teams refrained from participating despite athletic qualifications. Since 2011, not only the promoters to the first division have been determined, but also the second division champions at the end of the play-offs. The first title holder was the Sporting Clube Petróleos de Cabinda , who won the title again after relegation in 2013 and rose again to the Girabola.
