description

A parish church has been on the site since the 13th century at the latest. Fragments of this structure may have been integrated into the current church. This was built around 1625, at least in major parts. With a new church in 1817 or 1818, the church became obsolete. In the first half of the same century, the Girthon Old Kirk was described as ruinous.

The inner surface of the building is 21 m × 6.1 m. The quarry stone masonry with natural stone details is around 90 cm thick. The side facades of the ruins have been preserved up to a height of 3.9 m. The gables, on the other hand, reach a height of 6.7 m. On the east side, two arched windows are let in above the portal . They flank a niche that presumably once housed a figure of a saint. There are further windows in the east and south facades. The clergyman entered the building through a door on the south side. A baptismal font with a curved arch is installed inside on this side.

In the surrounding cemetery there are numerous ornamented gravestones from the 17th to 19th centuries.
