Girthon is a hamlet in the Scottish council area Dumfries and Galloway or the traditional county of Kirkcudbrightshire . It is located around three kilometers south of the Gatehouse of Fleet and nine kilometers west of Kirkcudbright near the confluence of the Water of Fleet in Wigtown Bay .
history
A parish church has been on the site since the 13th century at the latest . In 1625, the church ruin known today as Girthon Old Kirk was built as a successor structure. With a new church in the 1810s, the church became obsolete. For the first time in 1300, a mill in Girthon was mentioned with the Mill of Girthon .
traffic
The A75 trunk road ( Stranraer - Gretna Green ) runs just a few hundred meters north of Girthon. It can be reached via a side road. The A755 branches off one kilometer to the east and leads to the center of Kirkcudbright.
