Gisela is an abbreviation of a geographical information system for the identification of agricultural land in the country Baden-Wuerttemberg : G eografisches I nformation s ystem E evelopment in La ndwirtschaft .

The agricultural administrations in Europe have been obliged by the EU regulation VO (EG) No. 1593/2000 to use a geographical information system for the identification of agricultural areas since January 1, 2005.

With the help of GISELa, advice in the district offices - lower agricultural authorities - is supported; digital land maps and aerial photographs provide a quick and precise overview of the agricultural areas. The vector and raster data of the state operational survey were merged in a central geodata server, which is used by all departments of the Ministry of Food and Rural Areas . The data from the automated property map (ALK data) is available as well as aerial photos (digital orthophotos).

Thus, the parcel and district boundaries are just as visible as the actual use of the areas (arable land, grassland, forest, landscape elements, etc.).

GISELa is a comprehensive geographic information system for modern agriculture, it contains a nationwide data base. In 2005 the agricultural enterprises received overview maps on a scale of 1: 25000 and detailed maps with the areas of the farm on a scale of 1: 5000 and 1: 2500. The cards are issued in A3 format and are used to make applications easier and more precise (“joint application”).

Since 2006, the FIONA website has also made geodata available online to authorized people.
