Giuseppe Finzi

Giuseppe Finzi (* 1815 in Rivarolo near Mantua , † December 17, 1886 in Campitello near Mantua) was an Italian freedom fighter and politician.

Finzi took part in the first Italian war of unification in 1848 . Then he worked underground for the freedom movement Young Italy , which advocated an end to Austrian rule in northern Italy. He was a member of a liberation committee founded by the priest Enrico Tazzoli . In 1852 he was arrested by the Austrian police and sentenced to 18 years in prison. Finzi was one of the few members of this organization to escape the death penalty . He was released through an amnesty and took part in the Sardinian War in 1859 , which resulted in Italy being united. In 1860 he became a member of parliament and in 1886 a senator .
