Glück-Auf Sterkrade (officially: Sportclub Glück-Auf Sterkrade 1937 eV ) is a sports club from the Oberhausen district of Sterkrade . The first soccer team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The Germania Sterkrade football club existed in the south of Sterkrade . This merged with SV Sterkrade-Nord , so that there was no longer a football club in the south of Sterkrade. In 1937 a new club was founded, which immediately joined the Glück-Auf Sterkrade cycling club. This later became today's SC Glück-Auf Sterkrade. In 1946 the Sterkraders qualified for the newly created district league Rechter Niederrhein , from which the team promptly relegated.

Until the 1960s, Glück-Auf remained a top team in the district class, but without seriously intervening in the championship fight. The highlights of this era were the vice championships in 1958 and 1959 behind SpVgg Sterkrade-Nord and Concordia Lirich . In 1973 the Sterkraders relegated to the county class and returned four years later. In the following decades, the club shuttled between the district and district league and slipped down to the district league B in the 2000s. Since being promoted in 2007, Glück-Auf has been playing in the district league A.
