Ellinghorst

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ellinghorst is a district of Gladbeck in the west of the city on the border with Bottrop .

The name Ellinghorst goes back to an old place name: Elling (= alder) and -horst (= wood).

Ellinghorst consists of three settlements: the air shaft settlement , the Haarbach and the Pestalozzidorf . There is a large dump in the district. There are still bunkers from the Second World War , some of which are unlocked. At that time there was also a forced labor camp in Ellinghorst.

The Neo-Bronze Age burial ground of Gladbeck is located in the settlement .

From 1959 to 1961 the Catholic parish church of St. Elisabeth was built on Maria-Theresien-Straße according to a design by Otto Spengler and consecrated on January 7, 1961 by Bishop Franz Hengsbach . In 2010 it was profaned . In 2019 the fashion company "Grubenhelden" bought the St. Elisabeth Church.

Industry is located in Ellinghorst, which is directly connected to the A2 motorway, e.g. B. Dt. Rockwool, Döllken, Peine Salzgitter Stahlhandel.
