from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gladstone ( Gladstone Publishing ) was an American publisher who from 1986 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1998 Disney - Comics published. The name of the publisher was derived from Gustav Gans, English Gladstone Gander .

history

The company had its origins in a sub-division of Another Rainbow , a company founded by Bruce Hamilton and Russ Cochran to publish the Carl Barks Library and to bring out limited editions of Carl Barks' oil paintings as lithographs .

Reprints of the older Donald Duck stories by Carl Barks and Mickey Mouse stories by Floyd Gottfredson were the publisher's first products. The younger American Disney cartoonists Keno Don Rosa , William Van Horn and Pat Block started their careers at Gladstone. Some of Van Horn's stories were written by John Lustig . The publisher was primarily geared towards collectors, which can be seen from the fact that comments by the artists or other articles were often included. European Disney comics from Egmont , Oberon and Mondadori have also been published. These also included comics by well-known European cartoonists such as Romano Scarpa , Marco Rota , Daan Jippes and Freddy Milton .
