Glarus State Library
The Glarus Library (National Library of the Canton of Glarus), the cantonal library of the Canton of Glarus , which is a study and education library and also acts as a general public library with open access collection . The focus of the collection is on Glarus literature .
history
In 1761 the first library for the Protestant population of the canton was founded in Glarus . A library that is accessible to everyone in the Canton of Glarus was opened in 1858. After the devastating fire in 1861, which left two thirds of the city in ruins, the library in the court house was rebuilt. In the course of the renovation of the library, the magazine was expanded in 1969 and a new reading room was inaugurated. In 1993 the library moved to the building of the former Higher City School , where it is still located today.
Stocks
The open access area of the Glarus State Library includes 7,500 books for children and young people, 17,000 books for adults, over 6,500 other media such as videos, DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs, as well as 20 newspapers and 110 magazines. There are also 100,000 volumes in the magazine.
Special stocks
The special holdings of the Glarus State Library include the Walter Blumer map collection , the Arthur Dürst library, which mainly contains geography and map history, and the Fritz Zwicky library with astrophysics and morphology. She also has barter holdings from the Historical Society of the Canton of Glarus and the Natural Research Society of the Canton of Glarus.
Glaronensia
The Glarner Landesbibliothek has been commissioned by the canton to collect Glarus literature . This Glaronensia contains all publications that concern the Canton of Glarus and its immediate surroundings, writings that were written by people of Glarus or publications that were published in the Canton of Glarus.

Children, young people and adults have access to the state library. During the opening times of the Provincial Library is for the user to all media and institutions in the public sector, that is in the hands-free unit and in the reading room to use. With the exception of the holdings in the reading room, the bibliography room and the older magazine holdings, all media can be borrowed.
The Glarus State Library offers inter-librarian lending. Books for academic, school and professional purposes that are not available in the State Library can be ordered from another library via interlibrary loan upon request .
The library in the magazine department provides daily and weekly newspapers and magazines for reading, as well as three paid internet stations for surfing. In the reading room there are 2,500 books for consultation on site. Users who need even more peace and quiet can withdraw to one of the three study boxes in order to work undisturbed.
