Network formers , also known as glass formers , shape the basic molecular structure of glass . No other substances are required for glass formation. So has z. B. quartz glass as the only component SiO₂.

Network builders are the following connections:

• Silicon dioxide (SiO₂)
• Boron trioxide (B₂O₃)
• Phosphorus pentoxide (P ₂ O ₅ )
• Arsenic trioxide , also called arsenic (As₂O₃)
• Germanium dioxide (GeO₂)
• Antimony pentoxide (Sb₂O₅)

Stabilizers can be both network converters and network builders. In contrast to network builders, they are not able to form glass as an individual component.
