history

The glassmaking tradition of the Eisch family has been researched up to Mathias Alesch, who was born in the Bohemian Forest in 1689 and is on the list of employees of a small glassworks there.

The founder of the Eisch glassworks, Valentin Eisch, had been employed as a master engraver in the crystal glass factory of the commercial councilor Isidor Gistl since 1914 . In 1946 he and his wife Therese founded their own processing company in order to build a living for their six children. Soon the existing Bayerwald glassworks feared that competition would arise. They wanted to prevent this by blocking the delivery of raw glass to the Eischs. The Eisch family was forced to set up their own glass production. In December 1952 the first glass was melted in what was then the youngest and smallest glassworks in Bavaria. Despite great initial difficulties, the hut was expanded to a 12- port furnace in 1956 . Thanks to the cooperation of all family members and employees, a continuous upward development began.

Erwin Eisch is a pioneer and spiritual father of the studio glass movement in Europe. For the glassworks he is a source of inspiration and a “lateral thinker”. Based on Erwin Eisch's free-blown glass, the one-off series “Poetry in Glass” was created in 1977: collector's and collector's items in flowing shapes, which were designed into artistic objects using the various oven and cold glass techniques.

When it came to the choice of the preferred industrial partner by the German glass-porcelain specialist trade, Eisch claimed first place among all German glass manufacturers several times.

The Eisch glassworks is still fully family-owned and is run by the third generation of the family, Eberhard and Julia Eisch. Together with Florian Eichinger (4th generation, son of Julia Eisch), they build on the diverse experiences and craftsmanship of the past and are now turning the company into a modern and innovative glass manufacturer for creative table culture. With a consistent brand strategy that focuses on individuality and innovation, Glashütte Eisch is also successful in foreign markets. Today more than 50% of the total production is exported to over 60 countries worldwide.
