Glass carrier is the name given to a trader who carried Black Forest glass on backpacks or hats to areas that were sometimes far away. Glass slides also occurred in other glass-producing areas, they are called there, depending on the dialect different: Kraxenträger , Reffträger or Kiepenkerl .

history

The 12th century in the Black Forest upcoming glassworks were often in isolated areas far and so it was necessary to transport the glassware in the cities and on the markets. The easiest and most effective way to do this was through load carriers. The glass was originally extremely thin in contrast to today's glass, so it was easier to break. Merchants bought or ordered the glass from the glassworks in the centers as needed. The glass carriers then carried it out. Glass carriers often acted on their own account and were therefore independent.

For the local trade or the committee, peddlers or Grämpler (Krempel) were responsible for sales.

On the other hand, the watch wearers of the Black Forest achieved great fame, especially through advertising in the 1950s and 1960s .
