As "disciplines" in the can paragliders and hang sport both cross-country flying and acrobatic (batik) / aerobatics , as well as in paragliding (similar to skydiving ) is the target landing and additionally the cap relative - or cap formation flying are considered. The latter, in particular, has usually been counted as a special discipline in paragliding acrobatics. In terms of performance, the paraglider canopy formations are not inferior to those of parachutists, except for the formation sizes. The flight figure of the "Renegades", the spectacular "Hangover", can serve as impressive proof of this. The flight figure is a canopy relative formation known only from a parachute team.

As an independent sport direction which is paramotor viewed. In Germany it is legally part of UL flying and is therefore not assigned by the Ministry of Transport to the DHV ( German Hang Glider Association ) responsible for paragliding , but DULV (German Ultralight Flight Association ) and DAeC as commissioned associations.
