Gleneagles or Glen Eagles is a valley (Scottish gleann ) in the Ochil Hills in the Scottish county of Perthshire . Despite its similarity, the name obviously has nothing to do with the English word "eagle" (= eagle), but comes from the Scottish Gaelic word for "church" or "gap in the mountains".

The place is mainly through the same luxury hotel known where to 8 July 2005, the annual of 6 summit of the G8 took place. The hotel also has several golf courses on which large tournaments are regularly held. The most important event to date was the 40th Ryder Cup here in 2014 .

Gleneagles has a train station, formerly called "Crieff Junction", on the route between Perth and Stirling . It formed the crossing to the railway line to Crieff , which was closed in 1964.
