Gleneagles Dialogue

The Gleneagles Dialogue is a series of talks between the energy and environment ministers of the 20 countries with the highest energy consumption in the world. The dialogue was initiated at the G8 summit in 2005 in Gleneagles , Scotland . The dialogue is officially taking place on the subject of "Climate change, clean energy and sustainable development".

The aim of the dialogue is to jointly decide on further intergovernmental measures against global warming, to build up an environmentally friendly energy supply and to promote sustainable development .

In 2008, the fourth and so far last meeting of the Gleneagles Dialogue took place at the Environment Ministers' Meeting in Kobe , Japan .

Attendees

Participating countries in the Gleneagles Dialogue are on the one hand the G8 countries : Germany , the United States of America , Japan , Great Britain , Canada , France , Italy and Russia . There are also 12 other participants, namely Australia , Brazil , China , India , Indonesia , Mexico , Nigeria , Poland , South Africa , South Korea and Spain , supplemented by the European Commission . The International Energy Agency (IEA), the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the major development banks act as observers .
