Glenhead Cottage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glenhead Cottage is a working farm approximately three kilometers northeast of the Scottish town of Kilsyth in the North Lanarkshire Council Area . In 1993, Glenhead Cottage was added to the Scottish Monuments List in Category C. It is of historical importance as it is a rare example of a simple farm from the 19th century in this region, which has been preserved almost unchanged to this day.

description

The homestead is at the end of a street in the hamlet of High Banton on the east bank of the Banton Burn Stream . The exact construction date has not been passed down, so that only the early 19th century can be given as the construction period. The building encloses an inner courtyard on three sides. It is built on one level and ends with slate roofs . Several entrance doors lead into the various building areas and are surrounded by lattice windows. The chimneys either end with the gable surfaces or are located on the ridge. The attics are illuminated by skylights. On the right there is a small extension with an only slightly inclined monopitch roof that once housed the laundry room. As in south-west Scotland, the facades are traditionally plastered with Harl .
