from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Global Underground is a record label and compilation series in the electronic music scene.

Beginning

Global Underground was founded in 1996 by Andy Horsfield and James Todd. The label symbolizes the international rise of electronic dance music within the 90s and manifested artists such as Sasha, Paul Oakenfold , John Digweed , Danny Tenaglia , Nick Warren , Dave Seaman , Darren Emerson and James Lavelle .

background

Global Underground regularly publishes a series of compilations that reflect the respective technical and musical demands of its artists. In the beginning this series was released by another record label called Boxed, which also released sub-series of this compilation called Nubreed and Electric Calm. Boxed closed in 2001 and was acquired by Global Underground Ltd. accepted. Since its first release in 1996, the compilation series has achieved great recognition in the progressive house scene, as most of the music came from this genre stylistically. In spite of this, a few compilations were also published, which can also be attributed to trance and breakbeat music.

concept

The responsible DJ will record the Global Underground Compilation live during a party in different places around the world. The live set is published as a 2 CD format in order to convey a good overall impression.

International recognition

The Billboard determined that Global Underground was the first DJ mix compilation that featured the DJ with high quality photographs on the album cover, which also played an essential role in helping the DJ slip more into the role of a superstar.

GU Music

In 2003 the label started its own franchise concept on the new record label "GU Music". Until then, Global Underground was just a label making money with DJ compilations and mix CDs. The new label now made it possible to publish complete artist albums, records, CDs and MP3 files. The "GU Music" team commented: "Having nurtured some of the world's finest DJs we have applied this expertise to original music, cherry picking the coolest future talent from across the globe ...".
