Metal and bell foundries

The profession of metal and bell caster is recognized professional training in Germany in accordance with the ordinance of May 15, 1998 (Federal Law Gazette I, p. 996). In Austria , the equivalent apprenticeship is called metal caster , with training in the dual system with a training duration of three years. The apprenticeship metal caster can be started since July 1, 2010 and replaces the previous apprenticeships foundry mechanic, former and caster and tin caster.

The three-year training in Germany is divided into the following three disciplines:

  • Art and bell casting technology
  • Metal casting technology
  • Tin casting technology

Metal and bell foundries work in foundries or bell foundries and manufacture bells and other metal objects as well as the casting molds required for them . The tasks include the creation of the molten metal , the pouring process into the molds, the post-processing and the final assembly of church bells . There is the opportunity for metal and bell founder master to qualify .

To this day, bell foundries are mostly family businesses with a generational tradition .
