The Campana dei Caduti (Bell of the Fallen) in Rovereto

The bell foundry Capanni (Italian: Fonderia Capanni ) is one of the few still producing bell foundries in Italy . Its seat is in Castelnovo ne 'Monti in the north of Italy ( province of Reggio Emilia ).

history

In 1846, the blacksmith Paolo Capanni took over the bell foundry of the Betalli family, which had been in existence since 1565. Paolo Capanni learned the secrets of foundry art from an elderly local bell caster while working as a wandering blacksmith. First together with his five sons, then with his only two brothers Enrico and Giuseppe, he worked on a constantly growing area in Castelnovo ne 'Monti.

After the war-damaged bells were restored, around 22,000 bells have been made in the foundry since 1952. Today the business is run by the Enrica Capanni family and his son Paolo in the sixth generation. Among other things, he became famous for the new casting of the Campana dei Caduti (also Maria dolens ) bell in Rovereto. It is the fourth largest free-swinging bell in the world that can still be heard. Today's product range includes not only bells and accessories, but also tower clocks, computer-controlled striking mechanisms, electronic display boards and timing systems.
