Gloss Enhancement Module
The Gloss Enhancement Module (GEM) - also known as the "gloss unit" - describes a combination of rollers to improve the gloss of printed paper images from digital printing systems .
Some digital printing systems also produce a matt print image on glossy coated paper due to the toner used or the fixing technology. The “Gloss Enhancement Module” is used to compensate for this difference to offset printing . Based on the Xeikon company , it is used as an optional module in digital printing systems from IBM and Xerox .
construction
- 4 × pressure rollers (two each above and below the paper web)
- 4 × heating rollers (between two pressure rollers, two each above and below the paper web)
functionality
After fixing, the printed paper web passes through the heated "Gloss Enhancement Module" under pressure. The way this combination of rollers works is comparable to the effect of hot calendering .
