The glucagonoma (also called glucagonoma ) is a hormone-releasing tumor of the pancreas . The tumor secretes the metabolically active hormone glucagon , which has a strong influence on the body's sugar balance. Its function is to provide glucose (grape sugar) via various metabolic pathways in so-called "low-energy times" . These include gluconeogenesis , glycogenolysis , proteinolysis and lipolysis . In return, various metabolic processes are inhibited.
The tumor produces a large amount of glucagon so that other hormones such as insulin can no longer have their effect in the body.
There may be a nekrolytischen dermatitis , diabetes and weight loss come.
therapy
Therapy consists of surgically removing the glucagonoma completely. A possible hormone substitution is necessary.
