The D 60 C is a type of diesel-hydraulic shunting locomotive from the manufacturer Gmeinder Lokomotivenfabrik GmbH in Mosbach / Baden . It was developed in accordance with the recommendations of the Standard Diesel Locomotive Working Group in the Federal Association of German Railways (BDE) from 1971. In addition to the standard design, this locomotive is also available in an explosion-proof design, which is suitable for operation in danger zones such as within a chemical plant.

Since the early 1980s, six vehicles have been delivered to works railways by companies with their own track infrastructure ( BASF , Refinery Emsland , Chemische Werke Hüls , Rheinische Braunkohlenwerke and Oberrheinische Mineralölwerke ). All six machines are still in use today on the railways to which they were delivered, but in some cases the owner has changed.

After no other locomotives of this type had been delivered since 1993, BP AG placed an order for another locomotive for the Emsland Oil Refinery (ERE) in December 2008 . The locomotive, which differs visually and technically in a few details from the older examples, was delivered in March 2010. The second D 60 C, which has been at ERE since 1986, was previously modernized at Gmeinder and adapted to the new design.

On August 5, 2013, it was announced that Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ) had ordered two locomotives . These locomotives will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2013. Another two locomotives were delivered to Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe on May 27, 2019 as the 831 and 832. On March 4, 2020, 2 more were delivered to Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe as 833 and 834.
