history

closure

In 2007, the Evangelical Reformed Church in Osnabrück was forced to close three of its five churches due to financial feasibility. All three closed churches were in the outskirts of the city. In addition to the Gnadenkirche, the Atterkirche on Karl-Barth-Strasse in the Atter district was de-dedicated and used as a building by the “Wir in Atter” association. The Church of the Redeemer on Lerchenstrasse was also given to the Roman Orthodox Church.

The Evangelical Reformed community of Osnabrück has retained the mountain church and the peace church .

The church closed on January 6, 2008.

demolition

Since the transmitter unit of a mobile phone provider is housed in the church tower, the tower could not be demolished with the church building. The concluded contract for the use of the tower will run until at least 2021.

Daycare center and church tower

From the demolished church only the steeple remained. A day-care center with a capacity of 100 children was built on the site of the church building. On November 2, 2011, the foundation stone of the new daycare center was laid in the presence of the then Mayor Boris Pistorius .
