The Gneisenau was a fishing steamer of the German Imperial Navy used as a pilot boat and outpost boat .

The Gneisenau was built as a fish steamer by the shipbuilding company Unterweser AG Schichau for the FA Pust shipping company and had the construction number 0103. The ship was delivered on August 19, 1914.

The ship was requisitioned by the Imperial Navy due to the First World War that had just broken out and performed under the designation "Weser B" as a war pilot and auxiliary service.
