Gnome Builder is an integrated development environment that is part of the Gnome work environment from version 3.16 onwards . The first version was released on March 25, 2015. The program offers syntax highlighting in numerous languages based on GTK SourceView, as well as code completion for the C languages and Python using the Gnome Code Assistance library. Like all official GNOME software, Builder is distributed as free software also in source code under the terms of Version 3 of the GNU General Public License (GPL).
surface
Most of the user interface is reserved for the program code. A large selection of programming languages is recognized immediately and highlighted by the syntax. Above the editing window is a bar that shows details about the document, the language and the cursor position.
In addition to the line numbers, symbols indicate possible errors in the program code. If version management is used, colored bars show information about new or changed lines.
Gnome Builder allows you to choose from three different keyboard layouts. There is the native Gnome Builder mode, a Vim-like and an Emacs-like mode.
To the left, right and below the program code, additional menus for the project tree, searchable help and a command line can be displayed.
development
The initial development of the program was funded through a crowdfunding campaign in January 2015. The campaign initiated by main developer Christian Hergert reached 169% of its target with 55,625 USD (~ 50,550 € at the rate at the time).
