Gnome Disks (also called gnome-disk-utility or " palimpsest ") is a graphical front end (GUI) from udisks and is included in the gnome-disk-utility package . It can be used to manage partitions reading of SMART , Benchmarking , and up to version 3.12 for managing software RAID can be used. A user introduction is included in the GNOME Documentation Project .
background
Udisks was called DeviceKit disks in earlier versions , which in turn is contained in the DeviceKit . It was planned to replace the corresponding functionality in the HAL . HAL and DeviceKit were no longer developed.
A unique feature of the partition manager is that it allows user-scheduled tasks to run in the background and even after the application has been closed.
Disks emerged from Palimpsest and was adopted in various operating systems , including Debian , Ubuntu , Linux Mint , Trisquel , Fedora , Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and CentOS . In the OpenSUSE menu it is available under the name Drives , which links to the executable file gnome-disks .
